Astronomy and astrophysics took centre stage on the afternoon of 6 February at the Istituto Centrale per la Patologia degli Archivi e del Libro, thanks to a meeting dedicated to the presentation of the book Gli incunaboli e le cinquecentine degli Osservatori astronomici dell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (1478-1560) (Incunabula and sixteenth-century books from the astronomical observatories of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (1478-1560)). The publication, edited by Emilia Olostro Cirella, Laura Abrami, Giovanna Caprio, Francesca Perrone and Donatella Randazzo, is the result of a census of the ancient book heritage preserved in the libraries of the Astronomical and Astrophysical Observatories of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica and describes 227 printed editions of works published between 1478 and 1560.
The presentation opened with institutional greetings from the Director of ICPAL, Dr Aurora Raniolo, the President of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Roberto Ragazzoni, and Antonella Gasperini, Head of Libraries, Museums and Third Mission at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica. The afternoon continued with presentations by Edoardo Barbieri, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan; Massimo Della Valle, Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory in Naples and Accademia dei Lincei; and Emilia Olostro Cirella, Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory in Naples.
ICPAL would like to thank everyone for their kind participation and for the important presentation, which once again highlights the fundamental role of dialogue and institutional collaboration. ICPAL works alongside INAF, collaborating constantly to protect, restore and enhance the book and photographic heritage of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica.
