Yesterday afternoon, the Central Institute for the Pathology of Archives and Books had the pleasure of hosting Rev. Dr. Wessa Anba Beshoy, appointed by the head of the Coptic Church of Egypt, Pope Tawadros II, to set up a laboratory for the restoration and conservation of ancient manuscripts scattered throughout the many Coptic monasteries of Egypt at the monastic complex of Wadi El Natrun, in ancient Scete.
The monk, welcomed by the Director of ICPAL, Aurora Raniolo, and the Director General of Archives of the Ministry of Culture, Antonio Tarasco, was able to observe at close quarters the complex techniques developed in the laboratories for the restoration of works of great historical and cultural importance.
Rev. Dr Wessa Anba Beshoy also viewed some of the numerous restorations carried out by the ICPAL laboratories, whose restoration, training and research activities in the field of archival and library artefacts represent true excellence.
One of the objectives of the visit was to strengthen the exchange of knowledge between Italian and Egyptian religious institutions in the field of restoration and conservation of ancient documents, a sector in which ICPAL is a point of reference at national and international level.
